The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has been making life easy for those that are hired to represent us to formulate laws that are against our interests. It's a Koch Brothers backed organization that many people know very little, if anything, about. It was kept secret for many years, but has been exposed. That exposure and resulting backlash has caused many corporate donors to back away from ALEC, but it still has a very strong influence on the way laws are written.

One reason that many 1%ers want term limits is because it's easier for new Representatives to be swayed by ALEC because they don't know what they are doing. We need good, experienced, uncorrupted Representatives that know how to write legislation. We The People need to pay more attention, as many have now begun to realize, and hold our Representatives accountable to the people that actually hire them.

The Center for Media and Democracy has a lot of information at ALEC Exposed. It's important to understand how ALEC affects us.
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills.
