In light of the conversations about the last minute and limited announcement of the recent town halls

From a post in a Central Oregon Facebook group on Feb 10, 2017.

In light of the conversations about the last minute and limited announcement of the recent town halls, I’ll share the highlights of my conversation just now with Brook in the DC office (after leaving a voicemail for Nick in Bend):
• Focus of conversation was where to find Walden’s schedule on the website and his outbound email policy; I kept emphasizing that this is a bipartisan issue affecting all of his constituents.
• Brook does not think his schedule is on his website
• Thinks emails about the recent town halls only went to locals in the immediate vicinity; we discussed how that cuts out people whose contact info may not be up to date or are traveling (note: per this discussion group no email was sent to local constituents, only to newspapers.
• Discussed the fact that people may not be receiving emails, including me, due to post office-driven zip code changes supported by the fact that 18 months later I am still frequently getting “enter a valid zip code” on many websites; I had to insist that this is an issue that needs follow up and a response to me as it is not a policy question but a request to check on a possible software glitch. Brook took my contact information at this point.
• Requested Walden’s schedule for the district work week of Feb 20-24 when he is to be back in his district and available to constituents who are asking for town halls; she had no information.
• Brook stated she “didn’t know what [she] could really do” about any of this; I responded that Andrew Malcolm, Walden’s Director of Communications, could post on the website and social media the policy and protocol for outbound communications including announcements of town halls or other meetings. This policy should include how recipients are chosen and the lead time on meeting announcements. She did appear to think it is a reasonable request to give Andrew.
